About Us

Sharjah Equine Hospital was established in 2003 under the patronage of HRH Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. It is a government-owned equine hospital providing ambulatory, first opinion, referral services, plus after-hours emergency care.Our facilities include 50 in-patient stalls, 11 ICU stalls, isolation boxes, diagnostic and treatment rooms, lameness investigation areas, diagnostic endoscopy, up-to-date X-ray equipment, C-arm, MRI, CT, and two surgical suites. In addition, the hospital has its own in-house laboratory and autopsy room. Twelve full-time veterinarians (including 2 surgeons) assisted by veterinary assistants, interns and residents handle a broad range of cases in numerous disciplines, including orthopaedics and sports medicine, internal medicine, ophthalmology, dermatology, gastrointestinal problems, reproduction and dentistry. Equine patients are from a range of breeds (e.g. Warmblood, Thoroughbred, Arabian) and disciplines (e.g. showjumping, pleasure horse, endurance, showing).

What we are looking for:

A dedicated and experienced equine surgeon passionate about delivering compassionate, top-level care to all our equine patients. You should thrive in a collaborative, dynamic environment and be eager to advance your skills and knowledge in an innovative facility.As part of the surgical team, you will collaborate with two full-time ACVS-certified surgeons in managing a diverse surgical caseload. You will participate in after-hours emergency services and undertake lameness investigations.

Position requirements:

Education:

• ACVS or ECVS Board Certification in Large Animal/Equine Surgery or surgery-trained veterinarians are invited to apply.

Experience:

• At least 3 years in equine surgery with proficiency in various surgical and diagnostic procedures.

• Familiarity with sports medicine is an asset, though not essential.

Skills:

• High level of surgical expertise, compassion, and commitment to patient care.

• Collaborative, team-oriented, and open to innovative approaches.

• Strong problem-solving, diagnostic, and communication skills.

• Ability to remain calm and focused in emergency situations.

• Ability to communicate fluently in English.
